DIY: Baby Gnome Hat

Little baby August was born this past Valentine’s day at a hearty 7 pounds and 6 ounces. But despite his ample weight, this long and lean baby has the tiniest of craniums, causing any and every hat we have for him to slide down over his eyes. The result: one fussy baby! So what’s a mama to do? Make some DIY hats of course!

To ensure our little guy’s noggin was staying nice and toasty in our home and beyond I whipped up a simple yet chic hat design that I could create using various fabric scraps. Using printed fabrics on a bias instead of elastic, and solid t-shirt fabric for the top, August’s “krasnoludek” hats have become an instant hit! Keeping his head warm while adding a pop of color to his ensembles, making these little gnome hats in different color combos is becoming my new pass time, in between feedings and naps at least.

DIY: No-Sew T-Shirt Turban

It’s the time of year for biking, sunshine and humidity – which can mean only one thing – it’s frizz season!

If you have any hint of kink in your hair than I know you know where I’m coming from. You can be having the perfect hair day, go on a nice long bicycle ride, arrive at your location only to find that you’ve got that finger-in-a-light-socket look, and it ain’t pretty. So what’s a gal (or guy!) to do?

There are tons of products out there that can potentially help, but rather than slop gunk onto your locks try this out instead: a cotton turban headband. Not only will it keep your hair in place, it will also draw the eye away from that halo of fuzz that inevitably develops in the summer months.

Here’s a quick five-minute tutorial on how to make your very own headband using an upcycled tee and a pair of scissors. No sewing machine required! Give it a try and you too will find it’s the easiest way to beat the frizz this season. Continue reading →

Inspiration: Grey & Gold – Navy & Brass

Nothing feels better to me than getting lost in piles of fabric, color and texture on an early Saturday morning. With my goblins at my feet and a steamy earl grey on my desk, I spent hours upon hours this past weekend sewing up a storm. The result?! Awesomeness of course!

Focusing in on a unique color palette for spring, the new Pierogi Picnic collection is relying heavily on neutrals unexpectedly combined with bright metallics. Curious to see how things are turning out? Then stay tuned! I’m hosting a photo session to show off the new pieces later this month!

Featured Design: Peek A Boo Chevron

It’s the perfect time of year for layering up and cozying yourself out! So when choosing a design feature for this week – the choice was easy to make: The Peek A Boo Chevron Cardigan. Handmade using upcycled t-shirt cotton, this adorable top has an open facing front, gorgeous inset lace detailing in a chevron pattern in the back, and a gorgeous mustard yellow hue. It’s a great top for wearing over a t-shirt and fitted skirt, or for dressing up with a festive dress. Be sure to scoop one of these bad boys up before the holiday rush!

I’ve been seeing these adorable tie tops all over the city, Whether paired with cut-offs or a long maxi skirt, the look has definitely caught my eye. So how could I not concoct a tutorial on how to make your very own?!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for – the 2013 Pierogi Picnic swim line is here!

Building from classics like the Green Girl, Blossom and Beach Bum designs, these new vintage-inspired suits are made custom for the buyer out of repurposed t-shirt cotton, making them as eco-friendly as they are chic and comfy! Designs: Awesome Aqua

I had quite the night Wednesday as I hosted a Pierogi Picnic photo shoot for the Spring + Summer 2013 collection!

Somewhat overdue, three beautiful ladies braved the cold to come out and dress up in my latest creations. With a click here and a pop there – we flew through over 30 outfits in just over an hour!

As I sit later in the night reviewing the 300+ photos we had snapped – I noticed a theme: aqua. Lots and lots of aqua! It’s funny how certain colors become prevalent with or without intention. I had planned to focus the next few month’s worth of pieces on blacks, whites, mints and pops of red. That was the idea at least! So it’s fun to see where my sub-conscious creativity really leads – and in this case – it’s to the most wonderful of bluish-green hues.
