An Indie Biz: Etsy’s New About Page

So I did it – I hunkered down last night to create my “About” page on Etsy.

Deciding how to embody your brand in a neatly wrapped box and bow was quite the ordeal – which must explain why I’ve been putting it off for the past week. From the moment I read the announcement I cringed, knowing that my over-the-top detail-oriented brain would implode at the possibilities. The questions that boggled my mind included: What kind of dialogue should I use in the description? How can I fit my life story into such a small space? My Designs: The Birth of a Bathing Suit

One of my all-time favorite things to do is roll out of bed early in the morning on any given weekend and hit the studio for some sewing. It’s when my brain is freshest, my eyes sharpest, and the light is just right.

With a steaming homemade latte in one hand, and a sharp pair of fabric scissors in the other, I indulge in the stillness of a morning by cut cut cutting through textiles. The photo above documents one such dawn as I hand craft a custom order bathing suit. A delicate endeavor, each curve must be done with absolute precision to ensure a perfect fit for the wearer. And what better time to embark on such a project as a crisp cool Sunday morn.

An Indie Biz: Taking Count

In preparation for this fall’s festivals and shopper spike I spent part of the day doing inventory. This seemingly arduous task not only helps me prepare for fairs like Renegade, it also forces me to look back and see how my designs have evolved over the months. Sharp geometric cuts and draping fabrics have given way to more feminine shapes and lots of lace and print. My designs have also become more practical by showing less skin and embellishing  more on the details.  Continue reading
