Yolo Paints

I have an infatuation with color but am also incredibly indecisive. So when planning out the hues for my new apartment walls I am faced with a dilemma: I have to find something that’s easy on the eyes and on my body for the long haul.

That’s why I love Yolo! Born out of a need for “healthier paint and better color,” the team behind these beautiful shades guarantee zero VOC emissions and palettes to swoon over. Our current apartment dons some impressive hues from the collection. From a pumpkin orange and saturated teal, to a soft grey and delicate blue, the paints dry quickly, are easy to clean and have a nice matte finish.

So when having to choose which brand to go with for the new place, the choice was easy. The hard part though, was finalizing our colors. Even with a list in hand, once we arrived at the Yolo vendor’s store David and I still haggled between each other on final decisions. With lots of hemming and hawing, we finally committed to several shades.

Here is our color palette (see the inspirations and corresponding shades above) for the new digs: Nourish  03, Nourish 02, Dream 04, and Thrive 05.

Press: Handmake My Life

Special thanks to Hillery, from the adorable blog Handmake My Life, for featuring my work on her site this week! Her posts vary in range from tips on healthy routines and simple living to design roundups and current inspirations, creating a perfect blend of whimsy and info for the reader. Check out her post on Pierogi Picnic here, but also take some time to explore her other great finds.

Item of the Week: Gradients of Grey

This adorable blazer was handmade using an upcycled grey sweatshirt. I slimmed down the seams, shortened and reshaped the sleeves and transformed the front to have an adjustable collar.

The reason why I love it is two fold: The fabric is incredibly soft and feels great against the skin. I also love it’s versatility! Leave it buttoned for a classic blazer shape, or undue both of the top ones for more of a cardigan feel.

This unique piece is currently discounted as part of this week’s “Moving Sale.” Take an additional 30% off at checkout with the coupon code “movingsale2012.”

It’s officially 2 weeks until the big move and I can’t stop fascinating about our new digs. I am ‘pinning’ away on Pinterest, collecting ideas and inspirations on how to nest in my new abode. The site is chalked full of incredible DIY projects and photos of furniture that can be easily replicated using salvaged materials. Below is a look at all of my recent discoveries, which I plan on incorporating into the design of our new apartment. Continue reading

We’re Moving!

I am almost twitching with excitement – but it’s official – we’re moving!

What started as a casual apartment hunt, “should we happen to find the ‘perfect’ place” kind of search, has turned into a sudden reality. We’ve found a place that’s bigger, sunnier, cheaper, closer to work and in a more vibrant neighborhood. On top of it, our finances are aligning in a way that we’ll have all our costs covered without having to dip into our normal budget. Coincidence? I think not! An answer to my quiet prayers – this new place looks like it’s just what the divine doctor ordered.

So we have exactly 17 days to pack, pick paint colors, and devise a decorating plan for our new digs. Continue reading
