Bringing the Outdoors In

Plant in a bird cage by Lydia Krupinski

As a contributor to the Eco Etsy blog – I’ve had the opportunity to write on a wide range of topics. From eco-tutorials to sustainable inspirations – I’ve covered a range of topics on the site. Most recently I gathered up some ideas on how you can bring a hint of Spring indoors with creative curating using plants.

If you’re getting antsy like me to welcome the new season, check out the article for some suggestions on how you can bring the great outdoors in this month.

Events: 14 Days of Crafting

14 Days of Crafting from Eco Etsy photo by Lydia Krupinski

The Eco Etsy Street Team is holding our first-ever 14 days of crafting! We’re rounding up the best of the best green tutorials and sharing them with experienced upcyclers and newbie DIYers alike.

Several posts that I’ve written for the team blog from over the years, like the one above, will be featured, along with many other fun ways in which you can get your “craft on” sustainably.

Tune in each day of the challenge to be inspired and take your creativity to a whole new level!

Pumpkin Frenzy!

Pumpkins pumpkins pumpkins everywhere! Whether they’re green heirlooms or the traditional bright orange globes we’re most familiar with, this glorious gourd is the icon of the season.

Whether you were raised in a first generation home like myself, or have deep American roots that go back to your great great grandmama, everyone gets on the pumpkin train this time of year!

But how can you take your squash-loving obsession to the next level? So glad you asked!

Whether for decor or dinner – there’s endless ways to make the most of this lovely gourd. I recently wrote up an article for Eco Etsy touting its many creative uses. And I’d love to gather more!

If you have a fun and unique way to use pumpkins – share them below!

Events: Eco Etsy Earth Day Auction

Every year the Eco Etsy team puts together an online auction to celebrate both Earth Day and all the lovely Etsy artisans who run sustainable businesses.

This year the auction is separated into various categories with corresponding bid dates with all of the proceeds benefiting the National Park Foundation. Everything from baby items to household goodies can be found in the generous donations made by my fellow Eco Etsy team members.

So if you’re itching to update your wardrobe for Spring, or are looking to stock up on natural pampering products, check out the event which runs until Earth Day.

Inspiration: New Eco Etsy Series

With the start of the New Year my role on the Eco Etsy team is evolving.

We are doing away with the previous “Eco-Tutorial” series in lieu of daily topics by subject. Imagine what I was given? Inspiration. Perfect! I was so thrilled about the  idea that I spent an hour Saturday collecting thoughts, images, and articles that could encourage, enlighten, or excite. My first post will be debuting tomorrow morning.

Since ardently collecting potential inspirations, I’ve decided to also ‘beef up’ my inspiration series here! So expect to see more outfits, art, and imagery from around the web popping up on the Pierogi Picnic site as well!

And while we’re on the topic – is there something that has inspired you recently? Do you have a favorite blog or website that you turn to regularly to lift your spirit? If you do – please share it in the comments below!

DIY: Bibliophile Wreath

Tis the season for cozying up your place for the holidays – and what better way to do it then with a little elbow grease and upcycled materials?!

One of my recent favorite DIY projects is making ultra modern wreaths using the pages of tattered books. These easy to make decor items add some cheer to your pad but are super easy to make! You can experiment with different colors and textures of book paper as well as shapes and designs for the wreath pattern. To see how I made my set of three take a peek at the Eco Etsy tutorial I created here.

Once you’ve tried your hand at them snap a pic and send me the link! I’d love to see how yours turn out.
