Featured Design: Flirty Gerty

flirty gerty revamped vintage summer dress

Summer’s officially started Saturday – and there’s so many ways to celebrate! Hitting the beach, going to the market, enjoying an outdoor movie night, it seems all it takes is the solstice and some good temps and the city comes to life.

So when deciding on the my next design feature, I had all these activities in mind – and then some. My choice for early summer frolicking: the Flirty Gerty. Created from an over-sized vintage maxi dress, I altered this one-of-a-kind piece to make it a lightweight summer frock that’s great for hitting the sand or pavement.

With a loose easy breezy fit, super lightweight fabric, neon pink hue and embellished lace collar, it’s great as a cover-all over your swim suit or on it’s own belted with your favorite sandals. Absolutely loving on this dress! Scoop it up on my Etsy page here.

Featured Designs: Love & Lace

Pierogi Picnic: Love & Lace

I am so incredibly excited for the coming spring. I know it’s still several months away, but my mind can’t help but dream of longer days, budding trees and blooming crocuses. Perhaps it’s this longing for the season of awakening that drew my mind to the “Love & Lace” design.

Handmade using a salvaged t-shirt, this incredibly simple, yet romantic piece combines the softness of cotton and the allure of vintage white lace, to create a garment that’s both casual and eye-catching. With the versatility to be worn as either a short dress or tunic top, the “Love & Lace” design can be layered to your heart’s content.

But what about this design made me think of spring? The lightness of the fabric, coupled with the femininity of the lace makes me think of flirty frocks and less chunky knits – which is what spring fashion is all about! This specific creation also speaks to me as it’s the inspiration behind my new upcoming collection: Grey & Gold. Keep your eyes peeled for its debut this coming February! Until then – consider making this favorite a part of your personal collection.

Trends: Crazy Cat Lady

Pierogi Picnic: Trends - Crazy Cat Lady

Working full-time at the humane society during the day, I can tell you one thing: I have cats on the brain. Cats cats cats. It being the end of summer we’re overwhelmed with kittens, senior kitties and everything in between.

So imagine my delight when I found myself coming across item after item of kitty emblazoned products, both on and offline. I absolute love this kind of fun, furry and fuzzy trend! Plus – it’s a great way to remind people of how awesome cats are – and hopefully inspire adoption.

In ode to my furry friends, both at the animal shelter and at home, here’s a collection of feline-finds from my favorite Etsy shops. Go ahead and call me a crazy cat lady – I won’t mind!

Item of the Week: Season’s Greetings

Handmade holiday dress: Pierogi Picnic indie urban fashion

A month or so ago I was thinking to myself, “Hmmmm – the holidays are at hand and I want to make a fun festive dress that’s practical and affordable.” Like all of you, I knew my budget would be stretched with holiday shopping, tree dressing and other expenses. So my goal was to create a simple design that would result in a lower price tag and the “Season’s Greetings” dress is just that!

Making it’s debut at the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair – this fun and flattering frock is made using vintage linens and pre-loved women’s shirts and carries a reasonable price tag of only $36. The long-sleeved tops keep the wearer nice and toasty without compromising on style. Plus – the elastic high waist gives each dress a fancy shmancy finish that creates a beautiful bell-like shape when worn. I only have a handful of these cute pieces left, ranging from green and black to gold and grey. Great for wearing to your upcoming holiday parties, check out the remaining pieces here.

Design: Midnight in Paris

To no one’s surprise I just can’t get enough of cotton. This super soft, durable, breathable material is a dream come true – especially in the winter month’s when itchy wools wreak havoc on my skin! So when choosing the fiber for my new “Midnight in Paris” design the choice was easy.

This new piece has a classic a-line shape that is crafted from an over-sized pre-loved t-shirt. I leave the neck hem intact but everything else is cut and resewn for a new silhouette. My favorite part of this adorable tunic is the detachable straps that can be tied together to create a bow, or left off for a more minimalist finish.

Great for layering with oversized vintage sweaters and leggings or for donning with ombre tights and heels – this is an elegant (and affordable!) design that I’m sure will become a staple here at Pierogi Picnic.
