I made a promise to myself years ago when first starting Pierogi Picnic: I would only use real men and women for photo shoots. What the heck does that mean? I was tired of seeing towering and emaciated, uber airbrushed images of people in ads and photos. So I decided I would change the name of the game – at least in my own little corner of the apparel universe. I vowed that I would only use everyday people in my pics. People who are beautiful inside and out, who don’t ‘pose’ professionally and who come in a variety of shapes and sizes. And I continue in that tradition today! Continue reading →

Item of the Week: No Sweat

I love love love fall! The leaves are shifting hues, the air is crisp and cool and it’s the perfect time of year for layering up in cozy clothes! So when thinking of which design to feature this week, the choice seemed easy: My handmade No Sweat cowl tops! These uber comfy sweaters are upcycled from oversized sweatshirts – giving each piece a green spin and soft feel.

Mixing an edgy shape with the casual feel of cotton fleece makes each piece utilitarian yet comfy. And with the oversized turtleneck and lacy touch – it has just enough class to make it wearable to work! Great with skinny jeans and boots or a pencil skirt and leggings – this is one of my favorite designs for the season!

Ooh la la – one of my vintage finds was featured in an Etsy Fashion email last week! The adorable piece, which is a black and white polka dot fitted dress with a peplum waist, is one of my favorites from a photo shoot with Wanderslustings‘ wonder Caitlin Peters. So glad to see it being noticed!

Events: Renegade’s Chicago Holiday Market 2012

Big news hit my inbox Monday – Pierogi Picnic has been accepted to the 2012 rendition of Renegade’s Holiday Market! It will be my second time participating in the December show and am so excited for the opportunity!

I am also really looking forward to partnering with my good friend and creative cohort Caitlin Peters of Wanderlustings. Her new jewelry collection has me absolutely smitten. Between her beautiful and intricate trinkets and my brightly colored fabric baubles we’re going to knock the socks off this year’s fair goers!

So for the next month and a half expect lots of sneak peeks and previews of what’s to come at this year’s event! I’ll also be picking your brains closer to the date about booth setups and merchandise via the Pierogi Picnic Facebook. So be sure to stay tuned!
